You can see from this picture that the unit would power up.  The screen you see in this image is as far as the NW-HD1 would go. About 18 months after purchasing the Walkman I dropped it.  It didn't fall far but it fell far enough to mess up the hard drive.  I can no longer get the unit to boot. I asked the folks at Sony what it would cost to repair the unit and they said it didn't make sense as the cost of a new one was less than what the repair would be.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I heard of a company called Recovery Force that does &lt;a href="http://www.recoveryforce.com"&gt;hard drive recovery&lt;/a&gt; for all types of drives including Walkmans, iPods and camera cards. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I decided to keep a little journal of what happens when I send my NW HD-1 in for a hard drive repair.</description><link>http://www.sonywalkmanrepair.com/2007/12/sony-nw-hd-1-repair-story.html</link><author>John A.
