I picked up my Sony NW HD-1 a couple of years ago. About 18 months after purchasing the Walkman I dropped it. It didn’t fall far but it fell far enough to mess up the hard drive. I can no longer get the unit to boot. I asked the folks at Sony what it would cost to repair the unit and they said it didn’t make sense as the cost of a new one was less than what the repair would be.
I heard of a company called Recovery Force that does hard drive recovery for all types of drives including Walkmans, iPods and camera cards.
I decided to keep a little journal of what happens when I send my NW HD-1 in for a hard drive repair.
